Veterans of Foreign Wars

When this was assigned, one of my first thoughts was going down to the VFW.  Since the attacks on 9/11 and the subsequent Iraq war, more VFWs have been created.  I chose this shot because it was the clearest shot I got of the POW-MIA flag blowing in the wind.  The American flag isn’t quite as wind blown, but I wasn’t worried about that, you know it’s there, and you know what it is.  This photo is about the men and women who has fought to keep us safe since 1776 and even more so since 2001.

Cleanse

I took this photo when I was in Visual Communications.  It was part of a 3 photo series.  I chose the theme of the series to be “Water.”  I wanted the main focal point of the photo to be the running water.  I was concerned that the water would appear transparent on film, but it ended up showing up fine.  This was my favorite photo of the semester, mostly because it appeared as though it was the work of a professional.  My professor told me it could be used in an ad for something.  

As far as what it communicates… I’ve never thought about that until today.  The series of photos was about water.  I focused on how water can, “Calm, Cleanse, and Refresh.”  This, being the “Cleanse” portion of the series.  I supposed that is what it could communicate to some. The importance of washing your hands or our need for water could also be communicated.
