Breaking the Rules #3
With this photo, I broke the rule of thirds. I feel that placing the pathway dead center in the photograph creates a more captivating picture. I came upon this photo by accident. I had just gotten done shooting the previous photos I posted. I was on my way back to my car when I saw the pathway. I thought it would create a wonderful picture. Instead of pushing the pathway to either the left or the right of the frame, I left it dead center. I also tried shooting it vertically, but I didn’t want to lose any of the surroundings.
Breaking the Rules #2
These photos were taken at Garvin Heights, above the city of Winona. I was taking photos when I noticed a fly was just sitting on a rock. So I took a few pictures of it, and completely forgot the WSU campus was right behind it. So I shifted the focus and got a beautiful shot of campus as well. I don’t think I broke a rule, per say, but I definitely played with the ideas of background/ foreground. I did have some trouble with the light. At this time of the day the sun was so bright and intense, so I spent a bit of time adjusting the shutter speed and aperture.
Breaking the Rules #1
This photo is not for our 9/11 in-class challenge. I was walking around campus and there was this beautiful breeze and blinding sunlight through the trees. I stopped, look back and saw the American flag and thought it would be a beautiful picture. The rule of photography I broke would be, I suppose, use of light and overexposure. I used too much light to my advantage. The light is burning through the focal point of the photo, and is almost over powering, but not so much so that you don’t want to look.
